Brian A. Darr, P.E., IAAI-FIT, CFEI, has extensive experience in several areas, including tire failure analysis, fire investigation, vehicle accident reconstruction, insurance fraud, and product failure analysis. His expertise also covers tractor-trailers, automotive engineering, and mechanical engineering. In addition to extensive experience with tire failure analysis and fire investigation, Mr. Darr’s forensic experience includes vehicle accident reconstruction for both passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, drone aerial mapping, vehicle component failure analysis, and evaluations related to insurance fraud and consistency.
He conducts crash data retrieval (CDR) downloads for passenger vehicles and engine control module (ECM) downloads for commercial vehicles, and evaluates traffic signal-related information for intersection collisions. Furthermore, Mr. Darr offers services in product and material failure analysis, cause analysis, plumbing failure analysis, mechanical equipment and machinery failures, and investigations related to vehicle and residential fires. His expertise extends to fire suppression system investigations, lightning strike investigations, nondestructive
examinations and testing, product design, and assessment of conformance with government, corporate, industry, safety, and international standards.
With over 25 years of experience in the tire industry, Mr. Darr specializes in failure analysis, tread design, development, manufacturing, quality investigation, race tire preparation, and tire testing across numerous facilities. He worked as a plant technical engineer at a tire manufacturing facility, investigating quality-related issues, and at a Research & Development (R&D) center where he designed, developed, tested, and analyzed tires. Mr. Darr has visited numerous tire production plants, including Goodyear, Bridgestone, Michelin, and Continental Tire. He has inherent knowledge of the PAX run-flat tire system and the C3M manufacturing process. Additionally, he was responsible for verifying that tire products and tire pressure monitoring sensors conformed to relevant standards and regulations.
Mr. Darr has been qualified as a tire expert in state and federal courts. He has completed forensic tire failure analyses on various tire types (including passenger, light truck, radial medium truck, retreads, and motorcycle, utilizing hundreds of publicly available tire-related documents. He reviews forensic tire reports from outlying offices, provides marketing support, and conducts seminars nationwide.
Furthermore, Mr. Darr has conducted numerous investigations into the origin and cause of vehicle and residential fires, revealing findings that include intentionally set, accidental, and electrical causes. He has also investigated fire suppression systems. Mr. Darr holds multiple fire certifications and designations with the International Association of Arson Investigators and the National Association of Fire Investigators.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University and is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states.
