Algae on Walking Surfaces

Contaminants, such as water or oils, are well-known to compromise the available slip resistance on walkway surfaces. Here in Florida, due to our high humidity and consistent afternoon rain showers, we also see algae build up on walkway surfaces. This contaminant can have a slimy texture and can greatly reduce available slip resistance even on otherwise rough surfaces. While the growth of algae happens quickly, it doesn’t happen overnight. These are conditions that develop over days or weeks and can be mitigated before the surface is compromised. At Quality Forensic Engineering, LLC we have the expertise to help you with contaminants other than water and can help determine if the slip resistance of your surface was compromised or not.
